Poached Aloe

Ingredients:

Commonly used in cosmetics, fresh aloe gel relieves heartburn, lowers blood sugar, acts as a natural laxative, can be used to treat sunburn and is an effective alternative to chemical-based mouthwashes.

2 large aloe leaves

1 cup sugar

2 tbs lime juice

Instructions:

  1. Remove green aloe peel from leaves and cut gel into cubes.  (It is important to remove ALL the peel as it is tough, fibrous and bitter.)
  2. Add aloe gel cubes to pan with sugar and lime juice and cook over low heat until all the “slime” has been absorbed and the cubes are the texture of firm grapes.  Allow to cool and serve with plain yogurt or add to a smoothie after blending.
